Jones will discuss his involvement in security planning for political conventions, Presidential inaugurations and security advancement activities worldwide. He received a number of recognitions through his career including one for the apprehension of a person who attempted to burn themselves in front of the White House and others for planning a Presidential Inauguration and political conventions. In 2005 Jones was inducted into the MSU Criminal Justice Wall of Fame.

“I’ve dedicated much of my life to protection and justice,” said Jones. “I’m passionate about passing what I’ve learned on to those around me and sharing stories of my time from inside one of America’s most secure buildings, and what they might not know about protecting a President.”

Since his retirement from the Secret Service Jones has worked at both Ford Motor Company as a top level security specialist and at MSU as an instructor and criminal justice academic specialist. During that time he was the project director for two major Department of Homeland Security grants on community emergency preparedness and response to Weapons of Mass Destruction.

“It’s always fascinating to bring in an expert on a topic most of us only guess about or see on TV. Having a speaker who has spent time inside the White House and has seen what most of us can only imagine is always a great opportunity for our patrons to learn something new,” said Community Relations Specialist Amanda Harrison Keighely.

The program is December 13 from 7:00-8:30 p.m. in the Multipurpose Room and is open to everyone with an RHPL library card. This program is geared toward adults but all ages are welcome. Please register in advance at rhpl.org.
