The Friends of The Rochester Hills Library – The Library’s Volunteer Support Group – Is Looking for a Special Friend
How Special?
The group publishes a semiannual newsletter for its 840-plus members. But after many years of service, the current editor/publisher is stepping down. So the hunt is on for someone new to volunteer in time for the fall edition, due in October, and then continue from there.
The Workload?
Writing is a very small part of the job. A dedicated group of folks prepares the articles and sends them in for inclusion in the newsletter. The editor/publisher makes sure submissions are properly formatted, checks for errors, and then puts them together in a creative way so the newsletter is pleasing to look at and enjoyable to read.
The required skillset?
- Intermediate to advanced computer skills.
- Ability to add clipart to reflect the messages being presented. Choose and use different fonts, colors and highlighting. Create sidebar articles to draw reader attention.
- Ability to import and edit graphics, text, layouts, and format cells.
- Design creativity.
- Have a problem solver approach and be able to take direction from the Library’s computer tech support when necessary.
The newsletter can be done on either a Mac or a PC. “And you don’t need to be a newsletter expert to take on this job,” says Friends President Ron Meegan, “you just need a desire to learn and be willing to ask questions as you move through the process.”
