Friends of the Rochester Hills Public Library Re-Opens

The gift shop run by the Friends of the Rochester Hills Public Library has re-opened for business. Currently, a store-wide 40% Off Sale welcomes shoppers back and thanks them for their patience.

Due to the pandemic, the store had been open during limited hours by appointment only. And before that, the library was closed to patrons, resulting in the store being closed as well.

“We’re so happy to open our doors again,” said store manager, Darlene Tomczyk. “New spring merchandise has come in from some of our customers’ favorite vendors and we know they will be eager to see it.”

All of the library’s safety protocol are in place in the store and will be strictly followed. Face masks are required for entry, with a limited number of shoppers allowed in at a time. Hand sanitizer is available, and a clear acrylic barrier is in place to separate the cashier and the customer.

“I’m so ready to go back,” said Sue Falvo, one of the approximately 40 volunteers who have worked at the store, several for twenty years or more. “I’m sad that some of my fellow volunteers aren’t returning yet, but we all have to do what’s best for us.”

The store is in need of volunteers to help fill shifts. Tomczyk explained that the ideal candidate should be able to work a three-hour weekly shift and that a seasoned volunteer works with new candidates for training purposes. She added, “If you’re a people person, enjoy the shopping experience, and want to do your part to help the library, the store is a perfect place for you. You get first crack at new merchandise and a discount too. What’s not to like?”
