Friends Welcome “Gone With the Wind” Lady at Annual Meeting

If you’ve read the novel Gone With the Wind or watched the film numerous times, there’s a treat in store for you on Thursday, September 30th at the Friends of RHPL Annual Meeting.

Kathleen Marcaccio, known as The Gone With The Wind Answer Lady, will provide background information on author Margaret Mitchell and her Pulitzer Prize-winning novel Gone With The Wind. The presentation will include how David O Selznick turned the book into the 1939 blockbuster film by the same name; Margaret Mitchell’s post-GWTW life; and Gone With The Wind in popular culture.  GWTW memorabilia will also be on display. Registration is required and open to those with a Rochester Hills Public library card. To register go to the Events Calendar at www.rhpl.org or call 248-656-2900.

Before Ms. Marcaccio’s presentation, the Friends will announce the recipient of the 2010 Friends Volunteer of the Year award. This award is given annually to one person deemed to have made significant contributions of time, effort and commitment to the endeavors of the Friends.

In addition, the recipients of the Friends annual scholarships will be announced. Friends’ scholarships provide assistance with college tuition and expenses to individuals pursuing education in an accredited Masters of Library and Information Science program.

The Friends of the Rochester Hills Public Library Annual Meeting is Thursday, September 30 at 6:30 p.m. in the library’s Multipurpose Room. The library is located at 500 Olde Towne Road in Rochester.
