Get Your Community Moving with a Labor Day Walk

Celebrate the Holiday with fun physical activity for all ages

The Michigan Fitness Foundation (MFF) encourages communities to engage in fun physical activity by hosting a 2014 Labor Day Community Walk.

Michigan Fitness Foundation“Promoting and encouraging Michigan’s tradition of celebrating the end of summer through outdoor family fun was the catalyst for this celebration,” said Marilyn Lieber, President and CEO of MFF. “Each year, while nearly 50,000 Michiganders travel to the Mackinac Bridge to participate in the annual Bridge walk and run events, local communities provide healthy and easily accessible options for residents who are unable to make it to the Mighty Mac but would still like to get moving and join in the statewide celebration.”

In 2013 thirty communities registered their Labor Day walks with the Michigan Fitness Foundation and received assistance in promoting their local event and increasing participation.

Host communities will be able to use the Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness, Health and Sports logo on promotional items and will receive free support materials. The Labor Day Community Walk event will be endorsed by the Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness, Health and Sports which acknowledges quality physical activity events that contribute to the health and well-being of Michigan residents. Participants in a local Labor Day Community Walk will be eligible to enter the Bridge Run Lottery for Labor Day 2015.

The Michigan Fitness Foundation and the Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness, Health and Sports work to bring about behavior change through programming, special projects and events that encourage citizens to build physical activity and sound nutrition into their daily lives. By empowering, facilitating and celebrating healthy choices, the Foundation works to foster prosperity for all.
