Golf Ball Drop to Play it Foreward

Helicopter Drops One Thousand Golf Balls to Drive Donations to Charity

Sachse Construction hosted their annual charity golf outing, Play It Foreward, on Monday, July 11, featuring a visual helicopter “ball drop” to drive donations. Sachse Construction, located in Detroit, provides commercial general contracting and construction management services across the United States and Canada. The helicopter dropped over 1,000 golf balls purchased by attendees, and the first, second and third ball to hit a “hole-in-one” earned a cash prize. The rest of the donations will go toward this year’s sponsored charities. This year, Robb Gilbert from Eckert Mechanical Contractors in Burton, won $762.00 when his yellow foam golf ball hit the hole first.

The helicopter “ball drop” served as one of the many ways Sachse is fundraising for the two chosen charities from the golf outing. Funds will support The Detroit Youth Boxing Gym (DYBG) and Math Corps of Wayne State University (Math Corps). The event was held at Indianwood Golf & Country Club in Lake Orion. Each registered golfer received 18 holes of golf, continental breakfast, Bloody Mary/Mimosa bar, BBQ lunch on the course, open bar, networking mixer, and dinner. Todd Sachse, owner of Sachse Construction, has put on 17 outings to date. This event had 175 golfers and was the third year featuring the “ball drop.”

Butcher & Butcher Construction of Rochester Hills sponsored and participated in the event. “We’ve sponsored The Sachse Construction Play it Foreward golf outing for several years. Our company does a lot of work in Detroit, so we like to give back to the city when we can,” said Matt Butcher, Project Manager for the Glass Division, “This is the only golf outing I attend per year, so that’s saying a lot. The Sachse team does such an amazing job organizing the event year after year, and this year was no exception. The golf outing raised over $135,000, so it’s great to be a part of that.”

About Downtown Boxing Gym

Downtown Boxing Gym Youth Program is more than just boxing. Before the kids put on gloves, they have to hit the books. The work we do changes the lives of the kids by offering a safe, cool and productive place to go after school and during the summer. The work we do is about helping kids navigate the challenges they face in one of Detroit’s toughest neighborhoods and developing the whole person. Their success is our success and it creates a ripple effect that crosses boundaries, creating a true citizen of the world.

Since 2006, its home on Detroit’s East Side has served as a safe haven for kids aged 8 – 18. Downtown Boxing Gym’s Youth Program helps them learn how to study through tutoring, teaching them discipline through boxing, and instilling pride in their community through voluntary service

“Boxing is the ‘hook’ to get and keep kids in the program. Teaching them to be productive members of society is our passion.” –Coach Khali

About Math Corps!

Founded in 1992, the WSU Math Corps is a tuition-free combined academic enrichment and mentoring program that brings middle and high school students together, with college students and mathematicians to share in the teaching and learning of mathematics in a university setting. It is based on the idea of creating a self-perpetuating “corps,” where students matriculate through the program and return as mentors and tutors, passing their knowledge and values on to younger students, who in turn do the same.

In a world where the dreams of children are so often unfulfilled or not even encouraged, and where the obstacles to success are so daunting, the Math Corps has, from the beginning, been about making a difference and changing lives. At its core, the Math Corps is about a very simple but unwavering belief—that all children have a unique and special greatness within them, and that through hard work and a commitment to excellence, and with the support of a caring community, this greatness can be realized.
