The Rochester Area Ministerial Association in partnership with Rochester Community Schools will sponsor a celebration in honor of the teachings of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at a service to be held on Sunday, January 16, 2011 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 620 Romeo Rd. in Rochester.
The event will feature presentations from the student essay contest winners, Lake Orion Drummers, children’s choirs from multiple churches and public schools, liturgical dancers, and light refreshments. This event will include Rochester Hills Mayor Bryan K. Barnett and Rochester Mayor Jeffrey Cuthbertson ‘call to action’ for the cities’ ‘Make a Difference Day’ in April.
The Rev. Dr. Ken Johnson, retired psychologist who worked within the State of Michigan Prison System and developed the ‘Peace Initiative: We’ll Work for Peace’ organization will speak on the theme of ‘Service to the Community: Keeping Martin Luther King’s Dream Alive’. The program is open to the public and is free of charge.
