Holiday Home Tour Event Returns on December 15

Friends of the Rochester Hills Public Library 2019 Holiday Home Tour (HHT)

Scandinavian heritage and traditions blend with antique furnishings for a welcoming Jultime

The showcase of five area homes, done up in high style for the holidays for all to see, will be Sunday, December 15 from 12 noon-5:00 p.m. Maps on tickets direct patrons to the homes, all located in the general Rochester/Rochester Hills/Oakland Twp. Area.

The tour’s popular Gift Boutique will be hosted at a very familiar sixth stop, the Library’s multi-purpose room at 500 Olde Towne in downtown Rochester. Items for sale include yard art, warm scarves, honey products, plenty of holiday decorations and many more unique items for filling out holiday gift lists. Boutique hours are slightly different, from 1:00 – 6:00 p.m.

Cider and donut refreshments will be available at the boutique for each person with a HHT ticket.

On the home tour, people will drive to see a wide-array of décor styles and several one-of-a-kind displays put together by the five site hosts who open their homes to let others peek at what usually only close friends and family see. It’s all to help raise funds for the Friends, the Rochester Hills Public Library’s volunteer arm.

“We are very grateful to the homeowners and sponsors who have offered to keep this wonderful event alive for another year,” Friends President Ron Meegan said. “Many local businesses and individuals have donated money to the Holiday Home Tour to help underwrite the cost of the event. The tour presents some truly singular design options and ideas and shouldn’t be missed by anyone who enjoys this time of the year. This has become a signature annual event for the area and we hope everyone will make room on their schedule this year to take in these seasonally decorated residences.”

Docents Needed

“We need docents and docent captains this year for the tour,” event chair Marcia Decker said. “Docents work for 2.5 hours at a home and then are free to leave.” They are guides at the five different homes that display holiday finery to ticket holders. “They receive a ticket to the tour in exchange for their time and most go to see the remaining homes before or after their shifts.”

Anyone interested can inquire by calling Decker at 248-375-1464. Applicants will be asked for references and vetted for insurance purposes.
