The House of Providence is a safe place for survivors and overcomers. “Until Every Child has a Home,” is their slogan. Founders, Jason and Maggie Dunn, began House of Providence in a response to the orphan crisis in Michigan.
In the State of Michigan, there are thousands of children waiting for a family to call their own. Many of these children will never be matched with a family, and as a result, their journey will be difficult and lonely at best. Children who are never adopted will age out of the foster care system with little or no support.
The “In My Shoes” 2016 Wishes Gala is a fundraiser that benefits the non-profit in many ways. This year’s event will be held at the Royal Park Hotel in Rochester on November 4. Guests and sponsors are welcome, tickets are $100.
“Our event has three purposes. We are primarily fundraising for our annual programing, secondarily we seek to promote foster care and educate the public on the crisis and how they can engage and be a part of the solution and finally we award survivors and warriors who fight the battle in this field EVERY. SINGLE. DAY of their lives. It is a wonderful night full of fun and hope. It is black tie, and as such, everything is done with great attention to detail so as to provide a very high-end experience for our attendees. This always leaves our guest excited for “next years event.” We sell out every year and the energy in the room is always palpable,” said Maggie Dunn, House of Providence Founder/Chief Administrator, “This years theme is In My Shoes. We will seek to take our guest through the life journey of someone in foster care. It will be equal parts heart-wrenching and triumphant. The use of live elements and multimedia presentations will be professional yet extremely relatable and relevant to the event and guest.”

The House of Providence exists to be a safe and secure option for Michigan’s foster youth to stabilize and find hope and healing. They provide a therapeutic and familial environment for minors who are languishing without the prospect of a permanent family of their own.
They also provide vital intervention and support services that afford these children safety emotionally, mentally and physically. As a result of the direct care and individual attention given, the resident’s who come to us eventually stabilize and then are able to receive trauma focused therapy where they process their difficult journey, and begin to heal. This stabilization allows a teen to then reintegrate into the community by way of a family.
Eventually, these youth grow into whole, independent and successful adults realizing their potential. Most importantly, they will become a part of a familial system of support, perhaps for the first time ever.
