Three Rochester Community School students were selected to receive the Inaugural Summer Golf Scholarship and recognized before the Rochester Hills City Council meeting on Monday evening.
Sponsored by Pine Trace Golf Club, Allison Friebe, of Rochester High School, and Annica Taylor and Philip Mai of Stoney Creek High School, were each presented with a three-year scholarship giving them access to the Pine Trace driving range, putting/chipping areas, and the 18-hole course.

“This program is a unique way to recognize the academic achievements of our students while feeding their passion for the game of golf,” states Mike Bylen, Managing Partner of Pine Trace Golf Club.
Applications were reviewed by the scholarship committee and evaluated on a variety of merits, including academic success and GPA, community service, and access, or lack thereof, to a golf course.
“Golf creates an exceptional learning environment for our area’s best student athletes by encouraging inter-generational competition and socialization, all while building integrity and discipline,” states Rochester Hills City Councilman Mark Tisdel.
Tisdel hopes to recruit more golf courses for next year. Considering that there are 12 public and private courses within the Rochester Community Schools area, over 35 families would benefit from the program each year–if all participated– resulting in improved competitiveness of RCS high school golf team—boys’ and girls’— and reflect positively on the Greater Rochester Community.
Interested RCS high school boys’ and girls’ should contact their golf coach for more details, or inquire by contacting Leanne Scott, Deputy Clerk at the City of Rochester Hills. Candidates must be enrolled in the Rochester Community Schools or be a current Rochester Hills resident.
