Oakland County is using technology to make it easier for residents and visitors to find outdoor activities around the county this winter. The County is publishing a new interactive map blog of activities and things of interest around Oakland County each month.
“Oakland County residents and visitors enjoy a premiere quality of life because of the county’s natural beauty and access to many parks and other outdoor recreation venues,” Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson said. “We are now offering an easy-to-use interactive map where you can click on an activity in your area and find out more about it.”
Just click on the link for Play Outside this Winter from the Oakland County Blog. Once there, search for the outdoor activities blog and click on the interactive map. Zoom in/out and click icons for more details about outdoor activities such as skiing, skating and sledding.
“One of the great things about the map is that it makes it clear that no matter where you live in Oakland County, you are literally minutes away from outdoor activities,” Oakland County CIO and Deputy County Executive Phil Bertolini said.
Oakland County’s interactive map blog also offers seasonal-appropriate tips for enjoying the outdoors.
“Exercise increases endorphins, relieves stress, provides energy and brightens a bad mood,” the January blog said. “Don’t let the cold weather keep you inside, get up and get healthy this winter.”
“My administration encourages families to lead a healthier and more active lifestyle by getting off the couch and taking advantage of all the outdoor events Oakland County has to offer,” Patterson said.
