This Weekend at OU
The Epicenter Theatre Group offers its latest production, Italian American Reconciliation, to Rochester area theater fans. The comedy finishes its run this weekend at Oakland University’s Varner Hall Studio Theatre. The play is directed by Karen Sheridan. She is recognized in the Detroit theater scene, including Meadowbrook theatre, as an award winning actor as well.
Called a “comic masterpiece,” Italian American Reconciliation, a play by John Patrick Shanley, will leave audiences laughing out loud and pondering their own romantic relationships.
“In typical Shanley style, poetic images pour from the mouths of the common man,” states Marco Zaccagnini, Epicenter Managing Director, “The five characters contort themselves in every shape and many directions to achieve love, or at least a bowl of minestrone. People will recognize themselves and laugh at themselves in this little comic masterpiece.”
Set in the charming village of Little Italy in New York, the play features five local actors. Marco Zaccagnini (Aldo), Erin Edgerton (Janice), Elizabeth “Betty” DeWulf (Aunt May), Lauren Knox (Teresa) and Michael Lopetrone (Huey). Betty DeWulf is the former Theater Director from Eisenhower High School.
Aloof Huey wants to leave his current girlfriend Teresa and win back his ex-wife Janice. Best friend, Aldo, confronts Janice, a gun-toting, dog-killing crazy person to soften Huey’s return. Aunt May is a middle aged woman that’s been there and done that. She gives advice – no one takes – and offers the sane side of the bunch.
Show times are Thursday, Friday & Saturday at 8:00 p.m. and Sunday at 2:00 p.m. (June 7-10). This play contains some adult language and is not recommended for children under the age of 13. Tickets are $15.00 and $10.00 for students. Visit the website for details and to purchase tickets, www.EpicenterTheatreGroup.com
