Parents at Local Montessori School Celebrate National Children’s Day with Community Event Promoting Children’s Wellness and Activities


The Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) at The Montessori School Rochester (Spirit of the Child LLC) will hold “Kids on the Go,” a free event to celebrate National Children’s Day, Sunday, June 11, 2017 from 10:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Rochester Municipal Park, encouraging children of all ages to enjoy the outdoors and engage in activities that promote teamwork, unity and well-health.

Run/Walk Registration is Now Open

Morning activities feature the 1.3-mile “Montessori Milestone,” a non-competitive event for school-aged children that starts at 10:30 a.m. for runners, joggers and walkers, as well as a “Tot Trot” for youngsters to participate on a smaller, 1/3-mile paved course. Registration for the “Montessori Milestone” and “Tot Trot” is $15 online, or $20 at the event. Registration packets will be available for pick-up on the day of the event from 8:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. All participants who finish will receive a finisher’s medal and t-shirt. Registration and route maps are available.

“We wanted to create an opportunity for children from around the tri-county area to experience a variety of extracurricular activities,” said Joanne Yono Shango, Founder and Director of The Montessori School Rochester.

“Kids on the Go” is a Day of Fun at Rochester Municipal Park

From 11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., all children can attend free sports clinics and demonstrations, participate in a vendor scavenger hunt and check out a wide variety of after-school sports, fitness and educational opportunities available in the Rochester area. Crossfit Maven will be conducting Crossfit mini-clinics, Michigan Adventure Club will host mini clinics on adventure orienteering, and the Rochester School of Rock will offer children a hands-on musical experience.

Honor Guards Fencing Club, Flipspot, Lifetime Fitness, KLM Bike and Fitness, Berther Ranch, Midwest Dueling Pianos, and more will provide other activities.

Food and beverages will be available throughout the day and the event will be held rain or shine.

Rochester Municipal Park is located at 608 7th St., Rochester MI 48307. Entrance to the parking lot is on Ludlow Street, north of University and east of Livernois. There is no cost to attend and the event is open to the public.
