Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson has ordered a 60 x 30 foot American flag draped on the façade of the west wing of the Oakland County Circuit Court building in honor of those remembered during the 14th anniversary of 9/11. The flag is visible now and will remain up through Thursday, Sept. 17.
“Nearly 3,000 Americans lost their lives that tragic day,” Patterson said. “Since then, our military and first responders have been on the frontlines protecting our way of life. The flag is on display as a token of our appreciation for their sacrifices.”
In addition, Patterson declared Sept. 11-17 Patriot Week in Oakland County. Circuit Court Judge Michael Warren founded Patriot Week to renew “America’s spirit by celebrating the First Principles, Founding Fathers and other Patriots, vital documents and speeches, and flags that make America the greatest nation in world history.” Patriot week is anchored by the key dates of Sept. 11 and Sept. 17, or Constitution Day, the anniversary of the signing of the Constitution by the founders. Individuals may view the flag from northbound Telegraph Road. Those who wish to see it up close are welcome to park in one of the open lots near the Oakland County Circuit Court building located at 1200 N. Telegraph Road in Pontiac.
