Letter to the Editor: Fair is Fair

I will be enthusiastically voting in support of our current mayor, Bryan Barnett, for a variety of reasons, and encourage my fellow residents to do the same. Mayor Barnett has done and outstanding job at the helm of our city and I wholeheartedly support his bid to continue.

Recently, I have noticed a significant amount of press regarding the gas and oil issue, yet the truth is, it’s a non issue as the entire program has been scrapped in our area. I’m not sure why some candidates feel compelled to rehash this old news unless it is that they have so very little to criticize the current administration about.

To be fair, how do you criticize a mayor who has led the city through a major economic recession only to have it come out the other side bigger and better than ever? What can you say about a mayor who has led the city to a 99% satisfaction rate among its residents, a top ten best places to live in America rating, and the safest city in Michigan status? It must be very frustrating to mount a campaign against such overwhelming success.

It seems the only thing left to do is to yell “not fair!” because I am hearing a lot of that lately. Well, this is not a playground and with my vested interest, I will not base my vote of what others consider fair. I want what is right and what is best for my city, therefore, I strongly urge my fellow residents to write in Mayor Barnett and keep this good thing going.

  1. ” I have noticed a significant amount of press regarding the gas and oil issue” WHERE IS THAT?
Yet the truth is, it’s a non issue as the entire program has been scrapped in our area.” SAYS WHO, WHERE IS THAT SET IN STONE?
I’m not sure why some candidates feel compelled to rehash this old news -THE CANDIDATE, A FORMER COUNCILMAN IS RESPONDING TO WHAT RESIDENTS ARE CONCERNED ABOUT, AND RIGHTLY SO. TOO BAD CURRENT MAYOR SPENT THE LAST TWO TERMS IGNORING.

  2. Michelle, I also find it funny – “fair is fair” – when your guy has been running false and deceptive ads against a former Councilman – unless Barnett finds he have so very little to criticize about the former Councilman and his record that he has to make up stuff or grossly distort that person’s record. Sounds like a sore sport who’ll do anything to keep a good thing going – for himself! Hard to give up 15 years at City Hall.

  3. I was not planning on voting for the Mayors competitor, but I have been very disturbed by the negative campaign our Mayor has been running. I continually get these negative mailers and see negative online posts. If things are so great, which I candidly thought they were, then why? I am sure I am not alone….
