The Rochester Hills Public Library’s Bookmobile returned to the road this week for Grab & Go Service under Phase Three of the library’s Reopening Plan.

“We are excited to put the library’s Bookmobile back in service,” said library director Juliane Morian. “Health and safety remain our number one priority so we have implemented distancing measures for patrons to wait safely outside the Bookmobile. Additionally, only library staff will be allowed on the Bookmobile at this time. We know our bookmobile patrons have waited a long time to visit us and we appreciate their continued support.”

“For some of those living in senior living facilities we visit or are farther from the library,” noted Mary Davis, the library’s Outreach Services Manager, “the Bookmobile may be their first opportunity to experience the library since it has started offering drive-up service.”

With Grab & Go service, the Bookmobile will serve as a location to pick-up items requested from the Main Library. Library staff will help guide patrons on where to return materials and where to wait to check out materials. If an item is available on the Bookmobile shelves, a library staff member will grab it while a patron waits outside.

All library employees and Bookmobile patrons are required to wear a face mask covering both the nose and mouth. To make distancing easier, traffic cones will be set up to allow six feet of distance between others. Item checkouts will be processed through the Bookmobile’s passenger-side window.

Book bundles will be available on a table outside of the Bookmobile. Book Bundles will have four to six titles on a variety of topics and feature both fiction and nonfiction titles for all ages. A limited number of DVDs will also be available for checkout.
