Rochester Hills Public Library Encourages Everyone to be their Own Superhero and Sign-up for a Library Card
September is Library Card Sign-up Month, a time when Rochester Hills Public Library (RHPL) joins the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries nationwide to remind parents, caregivers, and students that signing up for a library card is the first step on the path to academic achievement and lifelong learning.
There is nothing more empowering than signing up for your own library card. Through access to technology, media resources, and educational programs, a library card gives students the tools to succeed in the classroom and provides people of all ages opportunities to pursue their dreams and passions.
Libraries offer everything from early literacy programs to virtual homework help and GED classes, helping transform lives and communities through education. Rochester Hills Public Library has a wide variety of learning assets and activities, including free access to Tutor.com, Gale Courses, and more for children, teens, and adults.
“Public libraries extend traditional learning in unexpected and innovative ways,” said library director Juliane Morian. “RHPL has learning resources that serve students of all ages and backgrounds including early childhood development and literacy assistance, online tutoring services for students, SAT and ACT prep classes for teens, and job search and certification classes for adults.”
This year, the community is encouraged to be their own superheroes embarking on a mission of lifelong learning by signing up for a library card. Having a library card makes you feel like a superhero with all the amazing things it gives you access to, including technology, media resources, and online classes.
Rochester Hills Public Library, along with libraries everywhere, continues to adapt and expand services to meet the evolving needs of the community. Sign up for a library card for the library’s lifelong learning resources.
Since 1987, Library Card Sign-up Month has been held each September to mark the beginning of the school year. During the month, the ALA and libraries unite together in a national effort to ensure every child signs up for their own library card.
