Live Clean Nutrition Opens in Rochester Hills, Grand Opening set for September 24

Rochester Hills may one day claim rights as the healthiest city in metro Detroit, at least that’s the goal of the owner of Live Clean Nutrition, a new Rochester Hills based retailer that just recently opened its doors. Opened by a young man who, like many, healed a personal health issue that conventional medicine simply couldn’t help him resolve. Doug Ferner, a health advocate who wants to apply what he’s learned to help others. A doctor told Ferner, who suffered from Ulcerative Colitis while in college, while recovering in the hospital, that the medicine he was just prescribed, would be something he would have to take for the rest of his life. However, the good news, according to the doctor, once he started treatment he could go back to eating anything he wanted. Not comfortable with that suggestion, Ferner researched his condition and found that through a “clean” lifestyle of living and eating, which simply meant ridding himself of the foods and other outside toxins that contributed to his digestive disease, he could live a normal, healthy life. And today, free of medicines and ulcerative colitis, Ferner, with the help of his family, wants to spread the word of health through his Live Clean Nutrition store, which is a unique combination of nutritional supplements, an organic juice bar, and a workout facility.

“This place is not just any Nutrition store,” says Ferner. When asked how he came up with the idea of opening a store like this, Ferner said, “I originally looked at two nutrition franchise operations, and after doing the diligence on each, decided there was no way I could ever be involved in either one because I personally would never take the products they were selling, so how could I possibly sell them to someone else. Their products were loaded with chemicals. So, at that point, I figured I could take what I learned and apply it to what I would want in a Nutrition store, which simply put, were “clean,” chemically free supplements. Many supplements today are made with things known in the business as excipients, or the “other ingredients”, which normally are binders, fillers, and lubricants used in the manufacturing processes, some of which have been linked to digestive inflammation, and even absorption issues. These excipients are oftentimes made up of chemicals or are chemically derived. “Most of our supplements are either excipient free, or they have what we define as clean excipients; things like rice bran, organic stevia, organic cacao bean; plus they come largely in vegetable derived capsules. Our sports performance products like protein powders and pre and post workouts are some of the cleanest, yet most effective in the business. Live Clean Nutrition doesn’t stop there. As part of the healthy theme, there is an organic juice bar that serves up over 25 different juices, smoothies, and wellness shots, using organic, fresh ingredients. Ferner likes to point out, “Every one of them actually taste great. In fact, one of the stipulations in developing these, were that they had to taste great.” My mother Tina created each and used my dad and me as guinea pigs over a year long period.  We went through a lot of juices and smoothies to get to the right formulas.”

To provide a balanced approach to health, Live Clean Nutrition also has a workout facility focused on Burst Training, otherwise known as HIIT. “Burst Training has been shown to burn 30% to 40% more calories 24 to 48 hours after a workout than other exercise routines,” according to Ferner. We run a circuit here, which allows members to pop in anytime, were open, so they don’t have to worry about the stress of class times, or appointments. A Certified Personal Trainer designs each circuit, and a Trainer runs every circuit as well. Plus, the circuits change every single day to mix it up a bit.”
