Author Dani Resh, of Rochester Hills, takes readers on a riveting journey into the unknown with her fantastical debut book. Compass to Vinland, the first in The Magic Shoe Series, is told through the eyes of Wren Larkin and his two unlikely friends, who discover three pairs of magical shoes. Magic attracts mischief, and when strangers arrive looking for the shoes, Wren and his friends flee to Underfoot, an underground settlement full of magical creatures.
Resh uses something as ordinary as shoes to create magic and meaning in this middle-grade adventure. “The magic shoes are a tool to bring out the true inner strength that lies within, and they help each of the characters develop a better understanding of who they are and how they fit into the world,” said Resh.
Drawn to the mysteries of life, Resh hopes to capture excitement in her readers, allowing them to see the world in a broader sense and seek out the endless possibilities that come with self-discovery. Resh believes that magic “energizes the soul” and makes life all the more magnificent.
“Having children of my own, I have seen that there is a need to just go on an adventure and not be constantly bombarded with the pressures of everyday life. Immersing oneself in a story that speaks to you can be such a wonderful experience,” said Resh. She hopes that her book will speak to middle-grade readers to be patient with themselves when trying to figure out who they are.
