GriffisRobert Carl Griffis

September 29, 1927 – November 7, 2013

Dr. Robert C. Griffis of Rochester Hills passed away on Thursday November 7, 2013. Loving husband for over 64 years to Doris. Dearest father of Carl (Etta), Edward, Robert (Barbara), Thomas (Mimi), and Patty. Proud grandfather of 6 grandchildren, Robert also leaves behind is dear cat Kacey. Robert served his country in the Navy during WWII; he graduated with a Doctorate in Chemistry going on to work for General Electric and Ford Motor Co. Robert volunteered for over 20 years making harnesses at Leader Dogs for the Blind of Rochester, MI. Visitation will be Tuesday November 12, 2013 from 1pm until the time of service at 3pm at Pixley Funeral Home, 322 W. University Dr. Rochester, MI 48307. Leroy D. Taylor

October 18, 1926 – November 8, 2013

Leroy D. Taylor; age 87; of Rochester, MI, passed away on November 8, 2013, surrounded by family. Lee will be dearly missed by his loving wife of 65 years, Kappy (nee Marjorie Kathleen Sims), and their children, Barbara and Larry Stringer of Rochester, Douglas and Martha Taylor of Newtown, PA, and David and Lisa Taylor of Traverse City. He is also survived by his seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren, who will always remember the humor, easy-going nature, and devotion of their “Grandpa Lee”.

The son of Irwin and Lena Mae Taylor (nee Plassey), Lee was born in Highland Park, MI and grew up on the eastside of Detroit, where he graduated from Pershing High School. He went on to earn his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan and his Master’s from Wayne State University. As a career engineer and executive with Sperry Vickers, Lee built his life with Kappy in Rochester, where they have been active in the community for decades. As a charter member of the Brookwood Golf Club, Lee was an avid golfer and enjoyed days spent on the links with Kappy and their dear friends. He was also a member of the First Congregational Church of Rochester. In addition to his unwavering love and support, Lee shared his passion for travel, dogs, sports, and reading with his family.

A celebration of his life will be held on November 23rd at the First Congregational Church of Rochester at 2:00pm. The family asks that any tributes or memorials may be directed to Rochester Hills Public Library in Lee’s honor. Dear son of Lois (Michael) Stephens; Dear brother of Shari Stephens and Shannon (Josh) Defoe; Son in law of Ralph (Pat) Sweat. Mr. Prieto was a Dialysis Technician at Davita Dialysis Center. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, November 12, 2013, 11:00 a.m. at the Riverside Chapel, Simpson-Modetz Funeral Home, 5630 Pontiac Lake Road, Waterford. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday 3 to 8 p.m. Memorials may be made to the National Kidney Foundation.

Frances Westbrook Allen, 64, passed away on Sunday, November 10, 2013 at Henry Ford Hospital in West Bloomfield, Michigan. Frances resided at the American House Oakland and was a former resident of Lawton, Oklahoma and Cortez, Colorado. She is survived by her sister, Carol Ann Parisi of Arvada, Colorado, her five children, Roger (Connie) Westbrook of Lawton, Oklahoma, Gene Westbrook of Lawton, Oklahoma, Vicki (Alan) Blazier of Sylvan Lake, Michigan, Jim (Kim) Westbrook of North Port, New York and David Westbrook of Durango, Colorado. Also fifteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Frances passed unexpectedly from a very rare disease. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made in her name to The National Prion Disease Pathology Surveillance Center www.cjdsurveillance.com

Mr. Long was retired from Ford Tractor and was a veteran of the United States Navy.
