Local Residents Help Employer in the Spirit of Giving

The Generosity of Beaumont Employees Shines with Spirit of Giving Campaign

Beaumont Health is a nonprofit organization that relies on the generosity of others to help fund leading edge health care solutions and maintain its commitment to compassionate, extraordinary care every day. And, Beaumont employees play an important role in the organization’s philanthropic success.

Each year, Beaumont Health employees take part in a Spirit of Giving Campaign. All employees are asked to consider a gift. In 2018, more than $1.6 million was raised from employee contributions. Participation is voluntary, and each employee can choose among hundreds of Beaumont Health Foundation funds help others.

All of the commitments from the 2018 drive are now processed. Of the 169 programs and projects donors chose, the Beaumont Health Employee Assistance Fund received the most support. This special fund supports Beaumont employees experiencing a hardship – maybe a health issue that keeps them out of work for an extended period, a transportation issue, family counseling needs or other matters.

“I believe in Spirit of Giving,” Denyce Henderson, RN, manager of the Beaumont Transfer Center, Dearborn and Westland resident said. “Several of the programs have touched my heart over the years. For example, the Employee Assistance Program helped a nursing assistant get a new hot water heater in the winter and another nursing assistant with funeral expenses for her spouse.”

In addition to employee assistance, some of the programs receiving the most employee support include Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals/Beaumont Children’s, Beaumont Teen Health Centers, Center for Exceptional Families, and Alzheimer’s Patient Support and Oncology Services.

When asked why they give, employee answers varied. Comments ranged from support due to a personal experience to wanting to grow a program they feel makes a positive difference in people’s lives. This is what a few employees had to say about why they gave:

“I give because I have been fortunate enough to serve as my units’ ambassador for the last couple of years and I know what a difference my contribution makes. In addition, I have been able to see how giving makes individuals feel so good about themselves. Where would any of us be without the help of others? If I can help in any way, I will.”

Bernadine Sherwood, RN, Nurse Navigator, Beaumont Grosse Pointe, Grosse Pointe Park resident

“Each year, I donate to the Grosse Pointe Comprehensive Breast Care Center. My donation enables the breast center to continue providing education, early detection and support to all who are faced with this challenging disease.”

Andrew Hazergian, Manager Respiratory Therapy, Beaumont Farmington Hills, Troy Resident

“Beaumont Health has provided me with a career that opened doors to amazing opportunities within the hospital. I can honestly say that I have so much fun here and love my job! When an opportunity to give back and help contribute to the new tower project came about, I didn’t think twice, I was all in.”

Beaumont Health’s annual Spirit of Giving campaign is an initiative of the Beaumont Health Foundation. Foundation funding supports the eight hospital system and offsite facilities throughout Southeast Michigan.
