As a resident of Rochester Hills for over 15 years, Dr. Susan Bowyer, is proud to announce she is seeking the District 3 seat for Rochester Hills City Council in the November election, she announced in a press release statement.
The District 3 seat is currently held by current council president Greg Hooper.
Dr. Bowyer is very excited to be running for City Council and believes that Building a strong community, Supporting youth and the elderly, and Protecting our parks and open spaces are paramount to creating a solid foundation for our city.
Bowyer is a Senior Scientist at Henry Ford Hospital in the Neurology Department, Adjunct Professor in the Physics Department at Oakland University, and an Assistant Professor at Wayne State University Medical School where she mentors medical students and medical residents. She is a University of Michigan-Flint and Oakland University graduate. Dr. Bowyer’s community service includes being Board President of one of Rochester Hills’ largest subdivisions for the past 7 years. Dr. Bowyer has also been very engaged in protecting not only the parks in Rochester Hills, but ensuring public voices in decisions affecting those public properties. In 2011, she and several other subdivision Presidents formed a ballot committee to add an amendment to the Rochester Hills City Charter providing for a prior public vote on any lease, sale or any change in parks Residents approved this Charter amendment at the ballot box in a landslide vote. Bowyer’s long history of community engagement also includes: coaching for the Rochester Youth Soccer League, active member of P.T.A’s at Hamlin, Reuther, and Rochester High School, as well as manager for the Rochester High School’s Boys soccer team. Professionally, she has been elected to serve on several boards in her scientific field including Treasurer and Membership Development for the International Society for the Advancement of Clinical MEG and the American Clinical MEG Society. “This is a vibrant community that has grown from the small Avon Township when I first moved here in 1980, to being ranked the 9th Best Places to Live in America by “Money Magazine.” My Family and I have enjoyed building friendships and participating in all the great activities that Rochester Hills has to offer. I look forward to making use of my skills as a research scientist, treasurer, and leader to make data-driven and fiscally responsible decisions to ensure the future of this great city.” Bowyer said.
