After 10 Years, Bryan K. Barnett Becomes Longest Serving Mayor in City’s History

Rochester Hills Mayor Barnett recently became the longest serving mayor in the history of the city, passing the longevity mark set by former Mayor Billie Ireland who served for ten years. When he was appointed April 13, 2006, he was the youngest mayor in the United States to serve a city with over 50,000 people.

Since first elected, Mayor Barnett has focused on making Rochester Hills the nation’s preeminent place to live, work, and raise a family. Under his leadership, Rochester Hills was recently ranked one of the Top 10 “Best Places to Live in America” by Money Magazine, and enjoys the lowest crime rate in the State of Michigan. Rochester Hills also has one of the lowest tax rates of any city in Oakland county, as well as the second lowest unemployment rate in the State of Michigan. 

“Over the last decade, our city has built on its strong foundation and continued to thrive,” states Mayor Bryan K. Barnett. “As we look toward the future, we will be steadfast in seeking innovative ways to improve the quality of life for our residents. It is my tremendous pleasure to serve the City of Rochester Hills and I feel so blessed to have a job I truly love.” 

Mayor Barnett’s newest initiative has been the city’s first park development in over 25 years. After raising a million in private funding and the approval of 3.5 million in the city budget, Barnett plans to create an outdoor experience for residents that will revolutionize recreation for the region.
