St. Clair-Detroit River Sturgeon for Tomorrow

The Lake Sturgeon is native to the Great Lakes and considered Michigan’s largest and longest living, fresh water fish.  The maximum age reported is 154 years and the largest ever verified was captured in Lake Michigan 1943. It was 8 feet long and weighed 310 pounds. Representatives from St. Clair-Detroit River Sturgeon for Tomorrow will discuss the biology, history and conservation efforts surrounding Michigan’s largest fish. Attendees will have a chance to see Lake Sturgeon and learn about opportunities to become involved in sturgeon conservation.

Re-Imagining a National Historic Landmark presented by Mark J. Heppner, President & CEO, Edsel & Eleanor Ford House

Mark Heppner has been responsible for coordinating the multi-year, complete and intricate restoration of Fair Lane – Home of Clara & Henry Ford in Dearborn, Michigan. Learn the history of this National Historic Landmark, how it has been used as a public building in the past, and how its future is being reimagined. Mark brings 26 years of experience in managing and restoring museums and historic sites. Before joining the Ford House and Fair Lane teams, Heppner was executive director of Salisbury House & Gardens in Des Moines, Iowa for three years and, before that, he was a vice president of the museum services division at Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens in Akron, Ohio, for 17 years.

Tom Wilson serves as CEO and President of Olympia Entertainment. During his most impressive career, Tom has served as CEO and President of Palace Sports as well as being in charge of the operations of the Detroit Pistons, Detroit Shock and Tampa Bay Lightning, DTE Energy Music Theatre and Meadow Brook Music Festival. Mr. Wilson served as CEO and President of both the Detroit Red Wings and the Detroit Pistons Basketball Company. In addition, Mr. Wilson serves on the Beaumont Hospital Board of Trustees and Detroit Board of Directors of Boy’s Hope and CATCH (Caring Athletes Team for Children’s & Henry Ford Hospitals). He began his career working for the Los Angeles Lakers, Los Angeles Kings and The Forum. Mr. Wilson holds a BA in Business Administration from Wayne State University.

Tony Michaels is President and CEO of the Parade Company, creators and producers of the acclaimed Thanksgiving Parade. Tony also serves on many boards in our region including the Detroit Economic Club, the Community Foundation of Greater Rochester, and the Marketing Committee of the Detroit Zoo. Furthermore, he is the Executive Director of the Woodward Dream Cruise and is the Brand Advisor to Gretchen Valade’s Detroit Jazz Festival. Tony’s community involvement also includes the Boy Scouts, Crittenton Hospital Medical Center, Leader Dogs for the Blind, and the Executive Committee of the Michigan Thanksgiving Parade Foundation. Tony is involved with Ford Motor Company and Gleaners in a campaign to help feed the hungry. Tony is a 1981 graduate of Central Michigan University, with a degree in Business Administration and Marketing.  He and his wife, Clarice, reside in Rochester Hills and have three grown children.

Rochester Grangers Vintage Base Ball

The Rochester community has had a town base ball club as early as 1873 – in that year, the Grangers beat the Mechanics 25-15. Entering their 21st season the Rochester Grangers Vintage Base Ball Club invites fans to attend an upcoming home match. Bring a chair or blanket and enjoy a hot dog after the match.
