Rochester Hills, MI – Mayor Bryan K. Barnett officially announced his candidacy for re-election as Mayor of Rochester Hills. On April 13, Mayor Barnett celebrated his birthday by announcing his bid for re-election to a crowd of more than 300 friends, family and supporters. Barnett officially filed his paper work on May 5, 2011 at the Rochester Hills City Clerk’s Office.
Mayor Barnett’s leadership and commitment to the City of Rochester Hills is unparalleled and seen daily throughout the community. “I have been blessed to have a job that I love and to have the opportunity to work with an amazing community,” said Barnett. “The years ahead will be difficult, but I am up for the challenge, I am proud of my record and reputation as Mayor and feel that it reflects my commitment to serving the residents of Rochester Hills,” stated Barnett.
Through his innovative thinking and collaborative approach, Barnett’s time as Mayor has been marked by many significant accomplishments. In the past year alone, amidst the worst economy in decades, Rochester Hills has welcomed 27 new high-tech companies and created more than 1,200 new jobs. His strong focus on economic development and job creation has been integral in Rochester Hills achieving the second lowest unemployment rate in the State of Michigan.
Under Mayor Barnett’s leadership, Rochester Hills was recently recognized for its strong fiscal management having received the highest possible credit rating from Standard & Poor’s of ‘AAA’ and rated in the Top 5% of municipalities, once again putting Rochester Hills on top.
Mayor Barnett is a dynamic leader having successfully implemented the first incentive-based recycling program in the state. With the launch of Recycle Bank in 2008, recycling in the community has increased from 18% to 90% and has positioned Rochester Hills as a green leader in both the state and country.
A graduate of Oakland University, Barnett was first appointed by his peers as Mayor in 2006, after serving on City Council for six years, and then elected as Mayor by the residents in 2007. He continues to be recognized both regionally and nationally for his strong leadership ability. Barnett was selected to study as a fellow at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University in 2010, and most recently, he was chosen as one of only ten U.S. elected officials to attend a high-level sustainable planning summit in Germany this summer, sponsored by the German embassy.

Our family is moving to Rochester Hills this summer! Looking forward to being able to support Mayor Barnett!
When I first moved to Rochester Hills over five years ago, Mayor Barnett was still a councilman. From the moment is was appointed as Mayor, and eventually elected, he has rolled up his sleeves, jumped in with both feet, and never looked back. Recently, when a good friend and her husband were looking for their first house, I strongly encouraged them to check out Rochester Hills. In March, they became the city’s newest residents. If I didn’t feel confident in Mayor Barnett’s abilities, I wouldn’t have stayed this long.
Mayor Barnett’s amazing reputation and innovative recycling incentives are part of the reason I moved to Rochester Hills in the first place! I keep finding new reasons to be impressed by him, and I will be proud to cast my vote for Barnett.
