Special Tour and Lecture Inspired by the Downton Abbey Television Series
Meadow Brook Hall presents A Servant’s Life – a series of events February 10 through February 25 inspired by the popular PBS series Downton Abbey. Guests will gain insight into the daily life of the servants that lived and worked at Meadow Brook Hall.
The month commences with A Servant’s Life Living History Tour, a unique tour offered on February 10, 11, 17, 18, 24 and 25. Visitors will have a chance to see life as it was lived in the “downstairs” of Meadow Brook Hall when the head housekeeper invites them to be part of the staff. Guests will learn how the servants lived and worked at The Hall in this behind-the-scenes immersion history tour. Complete your afternoon with tea and scones in the Servants’ Dining Room.
The Lunch & Lecture takes place on Thursday, February 15 and 22. The program includes a lecture presented by Meadow Brook’s curator, Madelyn Rzadkowolski on the life of the staff that lived and worked at The Great Estate, including new stories and never-before-seen photos. The afternoon also includes lunch in the elegant Christopher Wren dining room, a special exhibit and tour featuring the rarely seen staff spaces.
Meadow Brook Hall is fully self-funded, relying on special events such as A Servant’s Life for the preservation and interpretation of this National Historic Landmark. The cost for A Servant’s Life Living History Tour is $35 per person and the Lunch & Lecture is $45. Reservations are required for all events. Limited tickets sold.
