Meadow Brook Theatre to Hold Auditions for Children in ‘A Christmas Carol’

Auditions are on September 27 on the campus of Oakland University in Rochester, Mich.

A favorite holiday tradition returns to Meadow Brook Theatre for the 39th year: A Christmas Carol. Ebenezer Scrooge, Tiny Tim, and a handful of ghosts will once again grace the streets of London to deliver a message of unity.

A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens, original adaptation and staging by Charles Nolte, will run at Meadow Brook Theatre (MBT) on the campus of Oakland University in Rochester, MI from November 19 through December 23, 2021, with school matinees beginning on Thursday, November 18.

Each year, children from across southeast Michigan have the opportunity to join the MBT stage in this annual holiday classic.

“This is our largest cast of the season,” explains Travis Walter, MBT’s artistic director. “While delivering a powerful show to audiences throughout the holiday season, the cast and crew becomes a family itself. Professional actors work side by side with local children and the playful energy and friendships forged create a real family atmosphere on and offstage.”

Auditions will be held at the theatre in Wilson Hall, on the campus of Oakland University, on Monday, September 27. Fully vaccinated children (ages 12 & 13) who will not have reached their 14th birthday before October 26 (1st day of rehearsal) may audition.

Children interested in auditioning should arrive at the lobby of the theatre starting at 5 p.m. to sign in. They will be reading from the script on stage in groups. No prepared pieces, singing, or dancing will be required at this audition. While it is not necessary, bring a copy of your resume if you have one. Please bring a photo that you do not need to be returned. It need not be a professional headshot; a school picture is fine.

Rehearsals for A Christmas Carol will be after school and on weekends with Monday as a day off. Performances, with many school day matinees, begin on November 18 and end on December 23. Each child’s role will be double-cast with each actor scheduled for half of the 48 performances.

Children in the cast will be paid a small fee. For more information, you may call 248-370-3308.
