On Friday, May 8, 2015, the Older Persons’ Commission (OPC) will host its 13th Annual Signature Event, the fundraiser for its “Meals on Wheels” program. OPC benefactress Kathy White and Oakland University President Dr. George Hynd are the honorary event co-chairs. Held at the Royal Park Hotel the gala will feature two bands; Detroit-based Serieux who are “all Motown all the time,” and the Jerry Ross Band, an OPC favorite. The evening’s festivities will also include a sumptuous dinner and silent auction. The event is being presented by Sanctuary at Bellbrook. Tickets are $150 and can be purchased in-person at the OPC located at 650 Letica Drive in Rochester, or by calling 248-608-0251.

Vital Services for Seniors

The Older Persons’ Commission celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2013. It is the state’s premier senior resource and community center and is dedicated to the physical, intellectual and emotional well-being of seniors age 50+ who are residents of Rochester, Rochester Hills and Oakland Township. OPC offers a number of vital programs and services designed to help seniors “age in place.” In addition to its “Meals on Wheels” program, which delivered over 115,000 meals in 2013 alone, OPC operates a door-to-door minibus program to assist seniors complete their daily activities, a lawn maintenance and snow removal program, resources for seniors with special needs, like Adult Day Services, a Medical Equipment Loan program, and much more.

The OPC

Located in a beautiful 90,000-sq-ft facility in Rochester, the OPC truly is the place to be. Come swim, learn to play a musical instrument, scuba dive, practice yoga, belly dance, paint, line dance or participate in any of the other dozens of activities at the OPC. All programs and services offered by the OPC are designed to help seniors age in place, stay connected to the community around them, and maintain their independence.
