Anness Appointed as Board Member for Rochester Community Schools
Barbara Anness was selected by the Board of Education of the Rochester Community School District to fill the vacant trustee position during the July 17 meeting. The term for the trustee appointment will continue through December 31, 2018.
“As a trustee on the Rochester Community School District Board, I am looking forward to volunteering my time, talent and expertise to enhance our community through a strong, local public school district. I believe a school board is the steward of community trust through sustainable budget and policy adoption and implementation, goal setting and advocating on behalf of the district,” said Anness.
Anness has been a resident of the Rochester Hills community for 21 years and volunteered her time and professional talents as a graphic designer for numerous organizations within the greater Rochester area.
“I got to know you from your work on the citizens’ committee that supported the bond. Your work on that project was so genuine. I admire you so much for the time and energy and creativity you put into that project, which I truly believe helped that bond pass,” said Vice President Kristin Bull in an address to Anness.
“Having worked with you through the PTA … I love that you are both analytical and creative. Your advocacy for the district and the service that you’ve already provided has been phenomenal,” said Trustee Michelle Bueltel.
The position of secretary was filled by Kevin Beers following the resignation of Beth Talbert. The position of trustee then became available for an eligible candidate to apply. The Board of Education followed the Revised School Code and Michigan Election Law in appointing an eligible candidate to fill the trustee position. Four candidates initially interviewed at the special board meeting on July 10. Two individuals were then invited to return for further discussion at the July 17 meeting.
Board President Sandy Fiaschetti, Ph.D., issued the Oath of Office to Anness. Superintendent Robert Shaner, Ph.D., welcomed Anness and thanked her for her willingness to dedicate her time and talents for the good of the school district.
“Rochester Community Schools is recognized as a top district in our state and, as a trustee, I’d like to continue to see it thrive by encouraging and supporting teaching excellence within our district, innovation in the classroom and expanded learning opportunities for all students at all levels,” said Anness.
