WHAT: The Downtown Rochester Farmers’ Market is one of 30 in Southeast Michigan to take part in the MI Apple Trail public art event featuring giant fiberglass apples. The event was designed to celebrate Michigan’s bountiful apple harvest and is sponsored by the Michigan Apple Committee and Detroit’s Eastern Market. The event will feature 4-foot tall fiberglass apples, hand-painted and/or embellished by local artists.
The Downtown Rochester Farmers’ Market is seeking an artist to decorate a 4’, three dimensional fiberglass apple. There is no charge to the artist and the Market will provide a $500 honorarium for decorating the apple. The apple must be completed and returned for display at the Downtown Rochester Farmers’ Market by July 28th. On September 17th, decorated apples from all 30 participating Farmers’ Markets will be taken to Eastern Market in Detroit, where they will be publicly displayed, then auctioned at the Apple Gala and Auction on October 14, 2011. All proceeds will benefit the individual markets where apples were displayed.
