Michigan Schools Invited to Submit Footage of Special Events to View on Xfinity On Demand

Comcast announced it has launched “School Year 2020” on Xfinity On Demand to help schools commemorate the 2019-2020 academic year’s special moments. Students and families across Michigan can enjoy school year events on demand they may have otherwise missed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Michigan K-12 schools, as well as colleges and universities, are invited to submit footage of graduations, athletic recognition, and other events to include in the local on demand folder. Video submissions will be accepted through the end of August. For guidelines for submitting content and additional information, please email 2020_SchoolYear@comcast.com

The School Year 2020 on demand destination will be updated throughout the summer as local schools submit content. Michigan Xfinity TV customers can access School Year 2020 on Xfinity On Demand by clicking “Get Local” and searching for their school district’s or college’s folder. Xfinity X1 customers can simply say “Get Local” into the Xfinity Voice Remote to find the School Year 2020 destination.

“As a parent myself, I understand how disappointing it’s been for students, parents and relatives, alike, to miss so many end-of-school-year celebrations,” said Tim Collins, regional senior vice president for Comcast in Michigan. “Our ‘School Year 2020’ is Comcast’s salute to our youth and their tremendous accomplishments. This initiative also provides friends and family across the state who are our customers the opportunity to share in these special virtual events.”

Beyond this initiative, Comcast has undertaken a comprehensive COVID-19 response, including opening Xfinity WiFi hotspots located in business and outdoor locations across the country to anyone who needs them for free (including non-Xfinity Internet subscribers), pausing data plans, creating a COVID-19 news destination, and a K-12 education destination on X1 and Flex, offering rolling free entertainment previews to Xfinity X1 and Flex subscribers, and making its Internet Essentials program free for new families for the first 60 days of enrollment.
