Seniors Go for the Gold
Calling all athletes! Registration is now open for the Michigan Senior Olympics (MSO) Summer Games. The games will take place Friday, August 7 through Friday, August 14 and Sunday, August 23, 2015 at various locations throughout Oakland County. Registration deadline is Friday, July 17. The Michigan Senior Olympics is a nonprofit organization that promotes healthy lifestyles by organizing state games, sports competitions, and health, fitness, nutrition and wellness programs for active people age 50 and over.
Approximately 1,000 athletes ages 50+ will compete in events including: archery, badminton, basketball, billiards, bocce ball, bowling, cycling, dancesport, disc golf, golf, horseshoes, 5K, 10K, Pickleball, racewalk, racquetball, shuffleboard, softball, swimming, table tennis, tennis, triathlon, volleyball, powerlifting, and track & field. The Opening Ceremony will take place on Friday, August 7 at 6 p.m. in the Rochester Municipal Park. This free event is open to the public. The event will include free Kona Ice, food, music (The Windbreakers), face painters, balloon artists, and so much more! Bring the family and come support the athletes.
Volunteers are needed to help run the games and there are many positions that need to be filled. There are also sponsorship opportunities that can be customized to best suit your needs. Contact the MSO Office to find out more about sponsoring the summer games. Current major sponsors include Boulevard Health Center, Cherrywood Nursing & Living Center, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, Blue Care Network of Michigan, Meridian Health Plan, Oakland University, and the Older Persons’ Commission.
