Moore resigns from school board

Gerald Moore will step down from the Rochester Community Schools Board of Education effective immediately, he announced Nov. 19. Applications are now being sought for someone to fill the seat for the next two years.

The appointee’s term will expire December 31, 2014. In November 2014, a board member will be elected to serve the remainder of the term, which expires December 31, 2016.

By law, the board must appoint a new trustee within 30 days. Applications are available on the district website, Rochester.k12.mi.us, or from the superintendent’s office, 501 W. University. Applications are due by 3 p.m. Nov. 30 and can be returned to the superintendent’s office or emailed to board president Jennifer Berwick at jberwick@rochester.k12.mi.us.

Applicants’ names will be posted on the homepage of the district website. At 6 p.m. November 27, applicants are invited to an informal overview of the roles and responsibilities of board members. The meeting will be in the Graham Conference Room, 2nd Floor, Administration Center.

Community members are invited to attend an open house at 6 p.m. Dec. 3 to meet candidates in the Harrison Room of the Administration Center. At 7 p.m. the board will interview all applicants at a special meeting.

On December 5 the board will interview finalists at a special meeting. On Dec. 10, the newly appointed trustee is expected to be sworn in.
