Muslim Community to Collect and Donate Water to Flint until Crisis Ends

Detroit Chapter of largest Muslim community teams up with Humanity First charity

Recently, President Obama declared a federal state of emergency in Flint, Michigan due to the high lead levels in the water.  As a result, the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community of Detroit will utilize their mosque at 1730 W. Auburn Rd. as a drop off donation center for the Flint Water Crisis. The community will team up with internationally recognized charity Humanity First to drop off water donations to Flint on a weekly basis.

“It is heartbreaking to see your fellow human being go thirsty,” said Dr. Mansoor Qureshi, President of Ahmadiyya Muslim Community – Metro Detroit, “Islam teaches us to be kind to our neighbors. We cannot stand by idly while our neighbors in Flint don’t have safe water to drink.”

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community of Metro Detroit will continue to collect and distribute water donations every day and drop off those donations every week until the crisis has been averted. All communities and citizens in the Detroit area as well as the Greater Rochester Area are encouraged and requested to join in this effort. Donations are welcomed 7 days a week from 7 pm to 10 pm at 1730 W. Auburn Rd, Rochester Hills, MI 48309 or by visiting www.fundraise.humanityfirst.org/flintcrisis.

  1. When I heard about the water crisis in Flint, Michigan, I was horrified! I am so happy that volunteers like these amazing Muslim people came together to deliver bottled water to the struggling community who were basically living with poisoned water. When people rise to action like this, it truly gives me hope for humanity. Now, I haven’t heard anything about Flint recently in the news, but do we know how the water situation is there now?
