Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812, a Tony Award-winning electropop musical by Dave Malloy, adapts a dramatic segment of Leo Tolstoy’s War and Peace, centering on the impulsive Natasha Rostova, who falls for the charismatic but married Anatole Kuragin while her fiancé is away at war. The socially introspective Pierre Bezukhov navigates the fallout of her scandalous affair, set against the opulent backdrop of 19th-century Moscow aristocracy.
Known for its immersive staging, the production envelops audiences with a dynamic score that fuses pop, rock, Russian folk, and classical music, creating a rich tapestry of sound. The musical delves deeply into themes of love, betrayal, self-discovery, and redemption, offering a vivid and emotionally charged theatrical experience that captures the complexities of human relationships in a time of societal upheaval.
