Oakland Christian Rallies Supporters to Help Janitor in Need with VIDEO
Dale Bigger has been on the janitorial staff at Oakland Christian for 13 years. Jean Washington, a parent at OCS, ran into Dale and he shared a story of having his car totaled – no fault of his own – the only car in the family. He and his wife shared the car, dropping each other off at their destinations and allowing Dale to work at the school. After the car was totaled, Dale bowered a van from a teacher at OCS to get and forth to work.
The smiling janitor is well-liked by everyone at the school and Jean offered prayers for him. However, she knew others would want to help. After calling other parents to rally support, a suggestion of an online donation account came to light. “It sounded like a good idea,” said Washington, so she set it up on Giveforward.
The man with a positive attitude and big heart was in for a surprise. Parents, staff, teachers, former students and others gave that prayer a booster jump and within two days raised over $4,500 online. Direct donations at the school brought the total to over $7,000. Practically speechless as the giant check was handed to him, Dale was more than happy, thanking the Lord and everyone who helped make this give-forward-plan an answered prayer.
“There isn’t a person that deserves this more than Mr. Bigger,” said Jean Washington, “he is a genuinely humble, caring, loving human being. Everyone at OCS loves Mr. Bigger.” In addition to working at Oakland Christian School, he has been a volunteer associate pastor at Lapeer Free Methodist Church for the last 16 years.
The Giveforward Account will be open for a short time longer if readers would like to donate.
