Oakland County Board of Commissioners Announce a Special Annual Budget Presentation by Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson

The Board’s Finance Committee Schedules Summer Budget Hearings

The Oakland County Board of Commissioners announces a special budget presentation by Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson during the regular Board meeting scheduled for Thursday, July 16, 2015, beginning at 9:30 a.m. The meeting will be held in the Oakland County Board of Commissioners’ Auditorium, located at 1200 North Telegraph Road, in Pontiac, Michigan.

Oakland County residents will have the opportunity to hear Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson present the recommended triennial budget for the new fiscal year. He will recommend general fund budgets and total budgets for fiscal years 2016, 2017, and 2018.

“I am looking forward to hosting our County Executive, L. Brooks Patterson, in order to hear his proposal for the County’s budget. I am anticipating that the spending controls we put in place during the downturn years will now be providing the ability for us to recognize surpluses and invest in our assets, our people and activities for support and grow our business community,” stated Oakland County Board Chairman Michael J. Gingell.

The meeting will be recorded and webcasted by Trenton, Michigan based company, SoundQue. The public will be able to view the “live” webcast at www.OakGov/boc or www.Oakland.MichiganLiveEvents.com

Following the budget presentation, a series of Finance Committee budget hearings are scheduled beginning next week with county departments below appearing before the committee at 10 a.m. on these dates in Committee Room A.

All budget hearing meetings are held in Committee Room A, located at 1200 N. Telegraph Road in Pontiac, Michigan, near the Board of Commissioners’ Auditorium. All meetings are open to the public.

“We have until September 30, to review the budget and provide amendments to it. This is the hardest task that the Finance Committee is charged with before voting on the amended budget,” stated Oakland County Board Finance Chairperson Thomas F. Middleton.

The nine-member Finance Committee is led by Oakland County Commissioner Thomas F. Middleton (R), who serves as the Finance Chairperson and includes Commissioner Eileen T. Kowall (R), who serves as the Finance Majority Vice Chairperson, and Commissioner David Woodward (D), who serves as the Finance Minority Vice Chairperson. The committee also consists of Commissioners Christine A. Long (R), Shelley Goodman Taub (R), Hugh D. Crawford (R), Board Vice Chairperson Jeff Matis (R), Nancy L. Quarles (D) and Helaine M. Zack (D).

 

This committee oversees the County’s more than $800 million budget, in conjunction, with the full Board of Commissioners and the County Administration.

Oakland County Finance Committee’s Minority Vice-Chairperson David Woodward, stated, “This budget process is an opportunity to discuss and hopefully decide to fund the priorities that improve the safety and lives of the working families in Oakland County.”
