The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office (OCSO) was recently named one of the top twenty law enforcement agencies in the nation for military veterans and reservists by the Military Times. The selection focuses on department culture and policies catering to veterans and reservists.
The Best for Vets: Law Enforcement 2017 is an editorially independent news project that evaluates the many factors that make an agency a good fit for military veterans and reservists. The rankings are published in full in the issues of Army Times, Navy Times, Air Force Times and Marine Corps Times on newsstands the week of December 12, 2016, and online at www.militarytimes.com/bestforvets-lawenforcement2017. Military Times invited law enforcement agencies across the country to take part in our detailed, roughly-100-question survey. Agencies were evaluated on their military recruiting efforts, service member-related policies, rules for reservists, and department culture.
“We are proud to have been named one of the twenty best law enforcement agencies for military veterans and reservists in the nation,” said Sheriff Michael J. Bouchard. “We do our best to support the men and women who serve and work to protect our freedoms on a daily basis, and we invite any veterans or reservists to apply for a job today at the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office.”
The OCSO scored well in the rankings because of their hiring preference for veterans and a high percentage of veterans hired in relation to the total number of hires. In addition, Oakland County supports their staff when they are called and deployed by filling any wage difference and supporting their family.
Military Times’ Best for Vets rankings include Colleges, Career & Technical Colleges,
Business Schools, Franchises, Employers, Law Enforcement and Places to Live.
