Oakland County’s Five Golf Courses Set to Open for a Variety of Experiences

Oakland County Parks Golf Courses Open for Play on Tuesday April 1

No fooling, while warmer temperatures have already provided a sample of spring, a sure sign the seasons are changing is when the five golf courses operated by Oakland County Parks open for the season. This year that date is set for Tuesday, April 1, weather permitting.

“Golfers are always eager for the opening day,” Chief Park Operations and Maintenance – North District Tom Hughes said. “Oakland County Parks takes pride in providing an excellent experience for guests and maintaining beautiful, scenic golf courses that keep play affordable and available to everyone looking to golf close to home or try different golf destinations.”

Lyon Oaks Golf Course – One of Five Oakland County Golf Courses

Glen Oaks, Lyon Oaks, Springfield Oaks and White Lake Oaks golf courses are 18-hole courses that feature scenic views and challenging play. All four offer clubhouses with pro shops and food and beverage service while Lyon Oaks also has a driving range. Red Oaks Golf Course is home to a 9-hole executive course perfect for a quick game in a relaxing, urban setting.

The electric golf bikes at White Lake Oaks Golf Course continue to be popular. These individual rentals are an alternative to a larger golf cart, providing the rider with the ability to go directly to their ball. Golf bags are mounted in the center of the bike, which has wide wheels for a balanced and controlled ride. White Lake Oaks is one of the first golf courses in the area to have electric bikes available.

Glen Oaks Golf Course, one of the first golf courses to install hitting nets in 2018, is adding a third net and installing a permanent cement pad. This work is expected to be completed by end of April. Red Oaks Golf Course also has warm-up hitting nets.

In addition to being outdoors in the fresh air, golf provides opportunities for socializing, sharpening mental focus and enjoying physical exercise. It is an activity individuals of all ages and abilities can enjoy.

Junior rates will continue this year at the golf courses. Individuals ages 17 and younger can play 9 holes for $10 and 18 holes for $15 Monday-Friday and weekend afternoons. Specific hours are posted at each golf course. Juniors ride free with a paid adult during those times.

“These rates make it easier for junior golfers to learn the fundamentals of golf and practice their skills on a regular basis,” Hughes said. “It’s great to see so many junior golfers developing a love for the game at our golf courses.”

Discounted rates are also available for seniors ages 62+, individuals with disabilities, veterans and active military personnel. Twilight golf offers special rates during the evening hours.

Single rider Americans with Disabilities (ADA) golf carts are available for golfers with physical disabilities or limited mobility. Some carts feature a swivel seat that moves to a standing position and also pivots left and right for maximum range of motion during play.
