Cardimen’s presentation on “America’s Invasion at the ‘Underbelly’ of Europe” is scheduled to run from 7-8:30 p.m. and will follow the business portion of the Friends annual public meeting.

A popular and engrossing speaker, Cardimen personalizes the story of the Allies’ World War II invasion of Sicily and then Europe through his uncle’s journey with the 45th Infantry Division, 180th Regiment. It started fighting in Africa under Gen. George Patton and later under Lt. General Mark Clark. It’s a spellbinding tale that ends with the 45th’s march into Nuremberg, then to Dachau to liberate the infamous concentration camp and finally to the capture of Munich at the very end of European hostilities.

The evening begins at 6:00 p.m. with a Friends business meeting. And it is possible your enthusiasm and participation could benefit the Friends’ financial coffers.

The group United for Libraries, The Association of Library Trustees, Advocates, Friends and Foundations (a division of the American Library Association) is giving two $250 prizes to honor the best celebrations of Friends week and our event could be a real eye-catcher for context judges.

President Ron Meegan presides over the business meeting, including the presentation of a check to the library director, and the announcement of the Friends’ prestigious Volunteer of the Year award. Early arrivals thereby can hear and learn of the many ways the Friends’ group raises funds in support of the library.

National Friends of Libraries Week runs October 20-26, 2019.
