Oakland Township Library Board Seeks to Fill a Vacancy

The Oakland Township Library Board is seeking a qualified person to fill a vacancy occurring due to the recent passing of member William Gawthrop. Oakland Township Library Board President, Michael Tyler said, “Bill was a valuable asset, not only to the Oakland Township Library Board, but also, for the programs at the Rochester Library of which he was an integral part.”

The Board will appoint a person to fill the vacancy until the November 2018 general election when the non-partisan position will be filled for the balance of Mr. Gawthrop’s term that would have expired in November 2020.

A Board member must be 18 years of age or older, a citizen of the United States and a resident of Oakland Township. He or she must be able to attend the evening meetings of the board held four times a year, usually at 7 p.m. on the third Thursday, and assume board responsibilities. Persons with previous experience in governance, interest in library affairs, and have a keen desire to serve the greater Oakland Township community should consider applying. This is a volunteer position and is non-compensated.

There is additional information about the Oakland Township Library Board on the Oakland Township website along with the standard application form for Charter Township of Oakland Boards and Commissions. Board President, Michael Tyler, would be happy to talk to people interested in being appointed and to answer any questions they may have. Interested persons should contact Mr. Tyler at mptyler340@gmail.com.

Applications, accompanied by a short resume, should be sent to Ms. Courtney Wahnefried, Assistant Clerk at The Charter Township of Oakland, 4393 Collins Road, Rochester MI 48306 or email to her at cwahnefried@oaklandtownship.org. The deadline for filing an application is January 6, 2018.
