Paint Creek announces new exhibits

Paint Creek Center for the Arts presents Four, a group show featuring works by four exceptional artists.

Evelyn Bachorski-Bowman, Lynn Galbreath, Cristin Richard and Sioux Trujillo all work in different media, with distinctive, personal approaches to their respective materials.  The exhibit will take over the main gallery January 20 – February 17.

Bachorski-Bowman, of Milford, presents her sculpture series Portraits of a Soul. This group of emotive sculptures uses raw, textured plaster and encaustic to depict the emotional state of her subject.

Galbreath, of Bloomfield Hills, will present drawings from two bodies of work. Eccentric Objects is an ongoing series of mixed media drawings on Mylar, set within three dimensional constructions. “Talk” is a series that utilizes graphite, gold leaf and metallic markers on paper, with associated found objects. Both series reference humanitarian and social issues the artist is concerned with.

Richard, of Detroit, works primarily with hog and sheep casings, creating wearable sculptures and installations that draw on her interest in fashion and the body. Her translucent dress sculptures manage a fine balance between tough and ethereal, eerie and graceful. “The skin-like medium becomes a loaded metaphor which speaks to the human condition while creating an underlying narrative on materialism and over indulgence,” the artist says.

Trujillo, of Detroit, will create a fiber-based installation that incorporates multi-colored threads, felt and fiber objects.

Also opening on Jan. 20 in the first-floor gallery is a solo exhibition of photographs by Kyohei Abe entitled

Lynn Galbreath - Pony Boy

. For this show, Abe draws on his background in architecture along with his photographic skills. The works in this series present uncluttered, dream-like environments composed of simple formal elements. There is an implied narrative whose meaning seems just beyond our grasp.
