Pontiac, MI, December 6, 2010 – Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson today issued proclamations declaring Thursday, December 9, 2010 Lake Orion High School Day in Oakland County and Friday, December 10th, Farmington Harrison High School Day in Oakland County in recognition of their state football titles.
Both teams made history at Ford Field in Detroit over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend when the Lake Orion Dragons varsity football team won its first state championship in Division 1 and the Farmington Harrison Hawks varsity football team captured a record 13th state title in
Division 2.
“Each team had a superlative football season. I’m saluting both not only because they are from Oakland County, but because they represent hard work and excellence in their communities,” said Patterson.
Lake Orion Dragons Coach Chris Bell agrees. “The championship was a result of a great group of players working hard playing for a community that supported them every step of the way. It was a great win and season for Lake Orion,” he says.
The Dragons triumphed over the Plymouth Wildcats 21-13 Saturday, November 27th, wrapping up an incredible 13-1 season in its second trip to the Division 1 championship game. The Hawks, led by coach John Herrington, triumphed over the Lowell Red Arrows 38-28 Friday, November 26th, capping an undefeated 14-0 season in the team’s first state finals appearance since 2006.
