Documentary Provides Insight on Death, Funeral Industry, and Growing Trend of Personalized Services
Service Corporation International, North America’s largest provider of funeral and cemetery services, announced today its inclusion in the documentary, “The Embrace of Dying: How We Deal With The End of Life.” This PBS series takes an intimate look at how different cultures approach death, as well as how the funeral industry is evolving.
The eight-part series aired its first program on Detroit PBS on Monday, February 8, and included Vern Pixley, a senior managing director of the Dignity Memorial Network. Pixley, who is a third-generation funeral director, was interviewed for the series at Pixley Funeral Home in Rochester, which is part of the Dignity Memorial network of funeral homes. Pixley spoke about how his profession provided him with the opportunity to be service oriented.
The program featuring Pixley aired just 12 days after Dignity Memorial’s parent company, Service Corporation International received the J.D. Power President’s Award in recognition of its dedication to service excellence including quality improvement, customer satisfaction and the development of enduring client relationships. Only 12 other companies have received this esteemed award in J.D. Power’s 47-year history.
