Planning for the Future of Rochester Hills

City Embarks on Master Plan Process

The City of Rochester Hills is seeking community input for its 2018 Master Plan. The Master Plan serves as a big-picture, long-range document that guides policy and decision-making about how land in the city is used for housing, transportation, commerce, and recreation.

With public input, the city will revisit the goals and objectives of previous planning documents to see if they are still in alignment with the collective vision for our city’s future. It will also be useful for identifying appropriate land use strategies that support current and future residents and businesses. Most importantly, the plan will include implementation strategies that the city can use to achieve the vision of the plan.

To encourage as much citizen feedback as possible, the city is using a variety of methods aimed at people of all ages. These opportunities are posted on the city’s webpage.

Take the Ten Minute Survey

Online Survey

This quick ten minute survey will allow the community to share their thoughts and ideas from the comfort of their own home. Residents can complete the online survey by going to http://www.rochesterhills.org/MasterPlan. Survey responses will be collected now through late spring. Hard copies will be available at City Hall.

PictureThis!

PictureThis! Is an online forum which allows residents and business owners to share their thoughts and ideas in pictures. As residents are out and about, they can look for places that strike them as particularly worth preserving, needing some attention, or something the city needs more of. Images can be submitted from any internet browser using your phone, tablet, or computer.

Art Contest

The city is seeking artists between ages 5-18 to submit an original drawing, photograph, or poem that shows their favorite place in Rochester Hills. Only one entry per child will be allowed. Awards will be divided into categories by age group: 5-8, 9-13, 14-18. Winning entries will be included in the city’s Master Plan document in 2018. To fill out an entry form visit http://www.rochesterhills.org/MasterPlan.

Community Workshops

Citizens can also share their input and ideas by attending one of two community input workshops in the spring. These events are open to the public and everyone is encouraged to visit and participate. City staff, officials and facilitators will be available to discuss and meet with residents. To sign up for notification of the official time and date for these meetings, residents can email planning@rochesterhills.org.

All of the information gathered will give the City Council and the administration direction on the community’s priorities and where to focus the city’s resources to continue moving in a positive direction. The City expects the updated plan to be completed by Fall 2018.
