Press release from Rochester Hills on Storm Damages

Rochester Hills, MI- Severe storms and heavy winds went through Rochester Hills Sunday morning causing severe damage to homes near Brewster and Tienken and knocking out power to 900 DTE Energy Customers.

The Rochester Hills Fire/EMS Department has been on the scene since shortly after 6 am assisting residents evacuate the area to the nearby Van Hoosen Middle School. At this time no injuries have been reported.

“We have received support from our mutual aid partners in the neighboring communities, which have allowed us to ensure that all residents are safe and that they receive any assistance they may need,” states Fire Chief Sean Canto.

The National Weather Service and U.S. Department of Homeland Security are currently assessing the storm damage to determine whether or not a tornado touched down. DTE Energy is currently in the process of restoring power.

“The storms caused extensive damage, it was a Sunday morning miracle that that nobody was injured,” states Mayor Bryan K. Barnett. “I am proud of our city’s first responders and appreciate the community’s support from neighbors and organizations that have answered the call for help.”

The Salvation Army is providing help to the first responders and the victims of the storms.

Anyone who may have been out of town during the storm, or who may need their home damage assessed can contact the Rochester Hills Building Department on Monday morning.
