Staff of the Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC) joined forces recently with the Oakland County Bar Association to collect donations for U.S. troops serving in Afghanistan.
The donations were made as part of the Bar Association’s Operation Kuwait-Afghan-Iraq Campaign. Items collected included food, personal items, reading materials, entertainment items, sundries and more.
RCOC Board Member Eric S. Wilson, a veteran of the Vietnam War and a member of the Oakland County Bar Association’s Veterans Committee, led the RCOC effort. “I feel this is something we can do to support our troops serving overseas,” Wilson stated. “It’s important that we show the troops that we are thinking of them, and that we appreciate their service.”
Additionally, Wilson, along with Brian Kozlowicz and Jim Persinger, both inspectors in RCOC’s Construction Division, on Friday, March 19, volunteered to deliver a truckload of items purchased with cash donated through the Bar Association’s campaign to the Bar Association offices. The supplies, which will soon be sent to the overseas troops, were purchased at the base store at Selfridge Air National Guard Base in Macomb County.
“I’m proud of the RCOC staff for stepping up and making donations to this worthwhile cause,” Wilson said. “Our employees are always willing to help out when it’s for a good cause such as this.”
