Michigan Senior Olympics is pleased to announce that registration is now open for the 39th Annual Summer Games taking place August 10-19, throughout Oakland and Macomb Counties. Over 1,500 athletes will come from all over Michigan to complete. Athletes will have the opportunity to qualify for the 2019 National Senior Games in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Michigan Senior Olympics is a non-profit organization that promotes healthy lifestyles by organizing state games, sports competitions and health, fitness, and wellness programs for active individuals 50 years and older. The Olympic Games take place every summer and winter and their vision is to provide all individuals 50 years plus with programs to enjoy healthy and active lifestyles.
Events include Archery, Badminton, Basketball, Billiards, Bocce Ball, Bowling, Cycling, Dancesport, Disc Golf, Golf, Horseshoes, Pickleball, Powerlifting, Power Walk, 5K & 10K, Racewalk, Racquetball, Shuffleboard, Skills Challenge, Softball, Swimming, Open Water Swim, Table Tennis, Tennis, Track & Field, Triathlon, and Volleyball.
They are excited to announce a new event for the 2018 Games, Power Walk. They are hoping this event will help bring in a new group of athletes who enjoy speed walking. This event will take place at Oakland University on Sunday, August 19.
The Opening Ceremony is scheduled to take place Friday, August 10 at Bloomer Park in Rochester Hills from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Bring the family and come join them for this free event. It includes the torch arrival ceremony, music by Captain Fantastic (Elton John Tribute Band), free food from local food trucks including Detroit BBQ Company, The Mean Weenie, Hero & Villain, Buffy’s Mex-Casian Grill, and Treat Dreams. There will also be face painting, kids’ games, vendor tables, giveaways, and much more.
