Two Revolutionary War patriots who are buried in Rochester’s Mt. Avon Cemetery will have their graves rededicated Saturday, Aug. 18 at 1 p.m. A number of the descendants of the two families will be present.
The graves of Benjamin Loomis and George Horton do not indicate their involvement in the war. Horton’s grave was marked by the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution in 1909, but the headstone and marker are no longer there. Loomis’ headstone omits mention of his service. Both graves will receive new markers indicating their involvement in the American Revolution.
The Oaks Chapter of Sons of the American Revolution, Stoney Creek DAR Chapter, Rochester Historical Commission, Rochester – Avon Historical Society and the VFW will all participate in the event. The public is invited to attend. For more information call Rod Wilson at (248) 651-6178.
