Road Commission Jobs Now Available

The Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC) is looking to hire people who want to help keep Oakland County great by helping to maintain the county road system.

Two dozen works pose for a photo wearing matching safety vests.

“We think of these people as ‘road warriors’,” RCOC Managing Director Dennis Kolar said. “These are the front-line workers who handle the day-to-day maintenance necessary to keep our roads open and in good shape. This is truly a great way to be a vital part of your community and to make a difference in the lives of tens of thousands of your neighbors every day.”

The positions are laborers/drivers and require a Michigan Commercial Driver’s License with an air-brake endorsement (CDL-A). The starting wage for the position is $18.53 per hour, rising to $24 per hour after completion of a probationary period.

The positions include a competitive benefit package with health and dental insurance, a tuition reimbursement program and a retirement package for vested employees, among other items.

  • Servicing and maintaining equipment
  • Operating heavy construction equipment such as an excavator, grader, vactor, loader, etc.

All work is done collaboratively, safely and efficiently, and must be performed in a citizen-oriented manner in accordance with all rules, regulations, and policies.

The candidates for these positions must be willing to work in extreme weather conditions (hot and cold) and must be able to perform repetitive motions including bending, twisting, stopping, crouching, kneeling, grasping, holding, as well as extended periods of standing.
